Quilloer
Code of conduct
Last updated 4 November 2026
Quilloer is for long reads written by people, and for the conversations they start. These rules keep it that way. They apply to stories, responses, profiles, highlights you share, and messages to other members.
Write as yourself
- Publish your own writing. Quote others when you need to, and say whose words they are.
- Do not pass off generated text, or someone else's writing, as your own. If a tool did much of the writing, say so in the story.
- Do not try to fool the writing-effort counts. They are how readers know a person wrote what they are reading.
Respond like a person in the room
- Disagree with ideas, not people. Be as kind in a response as you would be face to face.
- Stay on the story. A response is not the place for advertising, or for an argument from somewhere else.
Not allowed
- Spam or advertising, including links posted in bulk and stories written only to sell.
- Harassment or bullying: targeting someone, piling on, or encouraging others to.
- Hate speech: attacking people for who they are (race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or illness).
- Violence or threats, and praising or calling for violence.
- Sexual content that is explicit, and anything sexual involving minors, which is reported to the authorities.
- False or misleading information presented as fact where it could cause real harm, for example about health, elections or emergencies.
- Plagiarism or copyright infringement: publishing work that is not yours to publish.
- Generated text passed off as a person's writing.
- Encouraging self-harm. Writing about your own experience is welcome. If you are in danger, please call your local emergency number now.
- Private information: publishing someone's address, phone number, documents or private messages without their consent.
- Pretending to be someone else, or making accounts to get around a suspension.
- Gaming the numbers: fake accounts, swapping claps, follows or invites, or sending people through invite links under false pretences.
Reporting
Every story, response and profile has a Report link. Choose what is wrong and add a note if it helps. Reports go to the moderators, and the member you report is not told who reported them. Please report rather than reply: a reply spreads what a report removes.
What moderators do
Moderators read every report. They may leave things as they are, hide a story or response, or suspend a member for a time or for good, depending on how serious it is and whether it has happened before. When something of yours is hidden or your account is suspended, you get a notice saying why.
Appeals
If you think a decision was wrong, answer the notice. Your answer goes to the moderators as an appeal and opens the case again. You can also write to hello@quilloer.com.
